Theme for the Week of 10/8: Internet Potato!

We've gone around the horn yet again, which means it's time for another week of Internet Potato!  For those unfamiliar with IP, here are the rules, which I have copied and pasted from the last time we had to explain this:

Over the past 10 weeks, the 10 contributors to this blog have each had a turn choosing a weekly theme (except for the Omniscient Omtubsman, whose unique duties require him to abstain from such direct editorial involvement).  Last week marked the end of our second complete theme rotation, which we are now celebrating with a brand new tradition called "Internet Potato."  For Internet Potato week, we're taking our usual posting model--wherein the themes change but our posting schedule doesn't--and flipping it on its head.  That means:

As part of Internet Potato week, each Tubtributor will revisit one theme of his choice from recently-completed rotation. 
In this case, the choices are:

• Hits
• Snacktime
• New Jersey
• Children
• Art
• Weather
• Game Shows
• Fear
• Circles

 

So how will we breathe new life into these stale, used themes?  By posting as each other!

Each Tubtributor has been assigned to take over the content and time slot of a fellow Tubtributor's column for the week. The Tubtributors will do their best to imitate the style of the feature they're guest-writing--be it an advice column, trivia quiz, optimistic rant, etc.

If you're wondering what this all has to do with potatoes, the answer is nothing.  We just had to name it something.

Theme for the Week of 10/1: Alcohol!

Tubreaders and tubtributors will have to excuse me if my head is not in the tub, because I've been celebrating your 2007 National League East Champion Philadelphia Phillies!

It's been fourteen long, gut-wrenching years since they last achieved this feat, or even made it to the playoffs at all, so I can think of no more appropriate theme than a celebration of the sweet nectar that made the latter portion of those years all the more bearable. Tell me about your booze, tubtributors.

Theme For the Week of 9/24: Hits

Dictionary.com offers 41 distinct definitions of the word "hit."

I'm going on the record now and saying that Emily will choose Pat Benatar lyrics over Britney Spears for her post title.  Also, Phylan will have a montage of people getting knocked unconscious.  If he doesn't, he totally should.

Ok, enough suggestions from the theme decider.  As Benatar said: fire away!

Theme for the Week of 9/17/07: Snack Time!

After a busy week of Jersey-Bashing, Jersey-Hating, and Faux-Jersey-Loving, it's time to get down to some serious business.

Theme Announcement: New Jersey

I just moved to the Garden State last week, which is why I've decided to make it this week's theme.  Think if it as your going-away present for me.  (Which is still not as good as KELLYq's present for me.)  The most important thing for me about a residence is not location, location, location, but food, food food, and I have already found the bagels and pizza here to be far superior to those in my home state.  And, although my heart will always belong to the D.C. suburbs, being this close to NYC and the beach--er, the shore, does have its benefits.  So have fun reading this week, whether it's about greasy pizza or greasy men, Tony Soprano or the smelly refineries, the population density or the Turnpike, the lack of a state song or the birthplace of college football.

Theme Announcement: Children

My last theme was "Marriage" so it follows naturally that my next theme would be children. Children are smelly, illogical, and silly. If Whitney Houston is to be believed, children are also our future. Keep that jarring thought in mind as you read this week's posts which will be all about children.

Theme for the Week 8/27: Art

There are many things one can say about art, what constitutes art, what moves us as art, what are our favorite types of art and who are our favorite artists. Some of us may have dabbled in some creative pursuits ourselves that we would like to share (I, for instance--and many can verify this--am an awesome colorer. It's all about the Crayola's for me, baby.) Whatever the case, this week the tub will be a flutter with artsy fartsy crap. Anyway, have a great week everyone!

Theme for the Week of 8/20/07: Weather

Weather is always around us. Whether it's raining men or raining rain, it can't be avoided. This week in the Bathtub, the "Bathtub Gang" will be weighing in on weather, "weather" you like it or not! Better bring your FUNbrella! Hopefully you can weather the storm... of hilarity!

Note: This theme was chosen before a massive hurricane started bearing down on the Caribbean. Hopefully this week won't turn out to be in really poor taste, but you know how these things tend to work out. I apologize in advance for the inevitable offense caused.

Theme for the Week 8/13: Game Shows

It is with much pleasure and a semi-erection that I present this week's theme: Game Shows. Game Shows are great for several reasons. They cost about $300 per episode to make and rake in billions in advertising dollars. They are the best way to figure out who out of three people are the best at something. They give people like Bob Saget, Drew Carey, and Howie Mandell a reason to postpone suicide (for a related topic, please see Lauren's Circle of Celebrity Media Exposure).

So let's get ready for a wild ride of a week talking Game Shows, and all the wheel-spinning, letter-turning, millionaire-to-be-wanting, deal-or-no-dealing, price-is-righting that comes with it. And just so we can get this out of the way now, the O.O has informed me that anyone who uses any of the following phrases will have a special place in his heart when it comes time for this week's Column of the Week awards, so please use them liberally: "Survey says . . . " "I'd like to solve the puzzle" "Let's make it a true daily double" "Is that your final answer" "You are the weakest link" or "Come on down!"

Theme for the Week of 8/6: Fear

I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot to say about this week's theme.  (You know, because I'm so bold and fearless.) 

But I'm guessing that my colleagues, being a big bunch of ninnies, will have no trouble expounding upon the chosen topic at length.  (Don't mock them for their ninny-dom; however.  The Tub should be a safe space.  And for all of my bravery, there is one thing that truly scares me: intolerance.)
