We've already determined that although we're like, total bffers, Tori and I are nothing alike.  For all of her girly drinks, I drinks lots 'o beer.  For all of her manly outfits, I wear frilly dresses.  For all the girls she's made out with, I've made out with boys instead.  And, even though I've never seen her room, I guarantee it's not as pink as mine is.  Regardless, we're pretty good at sharing Fridays (I'm pretty sure we're the only day that hasn't changed) and we have lots and lots fun when we hang out.  Sometimes even wearing pink.

Justin's Trivia Quiz: I'll Fact You

Note: This is a special Internet Potato edition of Emily's Trivia Quiz wherein Justin Douglas is taking over, and covering all of the themes from the past cycle.

This week, we'll be revisiting each of the themes from the last rotation, in a humorous and nerdy fashion. Also, some of the facts in question are obscure to the point of not actually being facts. But I promise that there is some humor.

Emily's Trivia Quiz If I Get Drunk Well I'll Pass Out on the Floor Now Baby

First, since I'm a public policy student, I'm going to start with a little story about former President Lyndon B. Johnson from his Special Assistant, Joseph A. Califano.

"In the early afternoon, the President, with me next to him in the front seat, took his white Lincoln convertible, top down, for a drive around the ranch. It was incredibly hot; the dust clouds made it hard to breathe. But there was relief. As we drove around we were followed by a car and a station wagon with Secret Service agents. The President drank Cutty Sark scotch and soda out of a large white plastic foam cup. Periodically, Johnson would slow down and hold his left arm outside the car, shaking the cup and ice. A Secret Service agent would run up to the car, take the cup and go back to the station wagon. There another agent would refill it with ice, scotch, and soda as the first agent trotted behind the wagon. Then the first agent would run the refilled cup up to LBJ’s outstretched and waiting hand, as the President’s car moved slowly along."

And people ask me why I want to go into politics.

Everyone was expecting D.C. to write a column about baseball.  And then he didn't.  So I decided to take the responsibility and write a quiz about my favorite sport.  P.S. So, I know you guys have had a blast bashing on New Jersey all week, but as I said earlier, it's definitely growing on me.  (It might help that they've supported my higher education aspirations a considerable amount...)  Regardless, I'm going to take a moderately unbiased stance on Jersey for my quiz this week.  I'm not obsessed with this state yet, so I can't write some glowing recommendation for everyone to pick-up and move here (you probably shouldn't anyway, this state has the highest density of any state).  I'm also not disgusted by it, there are plenty of pretty parts, which all of you who only know it by the Turnpike haven't seen.  Here's your chance to learn all about the Garden State!

Emily's Trivia Quiz: Sweet Child of Mine

I have lots of experience with children of all ages.  I was a camp counselor for years, I worked as the children's manager of a bookstore, and I've been babysitting since before I was old enough to stay at home alone.  (Seriously, my parents let me take care of the neighbor's kids before I was allowed to stay by myself.  I'm pretty sure that I still need supervision when I'm left home alone.)  Regardless, as much time as I spent with kids, I still love them, and want to have my own awesome children one day.  The one thing I don't want, is a crazy, insane, famous child for a kid.  And don't worry, I won't be entering my child into any pagents either.  So, listen eggs, don't let yourself become a creepy Olson-like clone or have a strong desire to be a child star.  Because you might end up in rehab at 13 like Drew Barrymore.

If you learned anything from reading my posts you know I love trivia (obvi), traveling, and foraging through my basement for old toys.  When I was younger, my family went on quite a few road trips.  And as an only child, I had to keep myself entertained in the backseat for hours--and this was before the age of in-car DVD players.  Or DVDs at all, actually.  Hell, even if they did exist when I was ten, there is NO WAY my family would have bought me that.  I can see my dad now telling me that looking out the window is more interesting anyway.  Now there's no way my kids are getting that either.  Meanwhilez, the parental units had to keep me occupied in the backseat, without me being too loud so they could hear their fave Barbara Streisand Broadway album.  What to do? Emily's Trivia Quiz: I Would Buy You a Green Dress, But Not a Real Green Dress, That's Cruel

I LOVE game shows.  I mean, I really love game shows.  I've already written about Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?,  I usually watch Jeopardy! twice a day, I've even gone to a taping with fellow Tubmate Lauren, and don't get me started about how awesome Cash Cab is.  Also, I am currently reading Ken Jenning's aptly titled "Brainiac: Adventures in the Curious, Competitive, Compulsive World of Trivia Buffs.  He totally understands my strife, saying:

"To paraphrase comedian Jacob Cohen (who was already in his forties, incidentally, when he adopted the stage name Rodney Dangerfield), trivia writers don't get no respect, no respect...surely trivia is easy to write.  Life is full of facts, or at least it sure seemed that way in school.  You pick some random facts, put a question mark on the end, and ta da! you've got trivia.  It's like shooting Rhincodon typus (the world's largest fish) in a barrel.  But that's not true at all.  Libraries may be full of facts, but finding beautiful trivia in those dry, dusty stacks is like panning for gold.  The glittering grains are few and far between...all trivia may be facts, but not all facts are captial-T Trivia."
