YouTub: Creepy Toy Commercial ITP (IN THIS POST)

Phylan_bathtubIn the bleak times before I had a DVR, I actually had to watch commercials (a time of my life that is thankfully fading from memory), and I got the sense that children's toys today kind of suck. It turns out this is just because I have a crappy memory. Toy commercials from the seventies and eighties had some pretty terrible production values and advertised some pretty lame looking toys. For example:

Transformers that don't even transform! And they even invented some shitty plot device to explain it. Would I give away the power to transform for temporary glory? No, Optimus, I submit that I would not. No additional vehicle could make it worth stripping away the purpose and integrity of Transformers. Not even Michael Bay screwed it up this badly.

Also, check out this 70s Toys 'R Us commercial. If this blazing synthesizer rendition of Jingle Bells doesn't get your heart racing, the very notion of a Super Wagon just might.

Wait, that is a Super Wagon? That's barely passable as a wagon, much less as something that deserves the "Super" qualifier. That hunk of crap is not fit to ride recklessly down a hill on (someone help me out here, the only thing I remember doing with a wagon is finding the steepest hill possible and jumping in, but I'm sure that's not its intended function).

I don't feel I need to comment on this one:

Finally, as promised, this commercial creeps me the hell out. Were I a child and I saw this, I would probably avoid toys for the rest of my childhood for fear they might suddenly become giant and start talking to me.

YouTub runs on Thursdays at noon.

That is, without exception, the crappiest rendition of Jingle Bells I have ever heard (and I have heard dogs bark it).

Why the hell would you go to toys r us and shell out 50 buck to play a game on a tv when the experience of searching for a game is like being on nick arcade (and free)? Or is this commercial saying that playing a nintendo game is a frustrating and humiliating experience?

Either way, count me out.

that last one is nightmarishly horrific. seriously, i let out a small yelp when that giant robot popped up in the kid's bedroom. then again, i did run screaming out of 'short circuit' as a child.

You didn't like short circuit? That movie was one of my favorites!

you're a douche
