When I think about toys, I think about presents. Presents are fun to
receive, but it can be tricky to get what you want. With the holiday
season approaching, I'm providing you with some tips for getting the
present you want. After the jump are some strategies I've learned over the years
from my incrediblly helpful and cooperative family.
The "My Dad" Method:
Create a meticulously detailed Amazon.com Wish List filled with ridiculously hard to find CD's and puzzles, and then have it sent to your friends and family about a week before the big day.
I guarantee I'll get an update before Christmas and before Father's Day.
The "My Mom" Method:
Ask for things, then when you receive them, frown and say that they
weren't quite what you were looking for.
The "Me, circa 1990-1993" Method:
Create works of art and poetry celebrating the wondrous attributes of
the toy you want.
Post them throughout the house, especially on doors and mirrors.
When ignored, write a well-reasoned paragraph about the toy you want; present it to
Mom and Dad at the dinner table.
I eventually got that Lego set. These two were also incredibly awesome.
The "Me, Present Day" Method:
Search for things I cannot afford on the internet.
Forward pictures of these things to my Mom and Dad.
See who will buy them.
Yay.
The "My Brother" Method:
Refuse to ask for things.
Claim that present giving is worthless.
Spend most of the time scowling. (See Example Below.)
"KELLYq & a" runs on Wednesday mornings. For more information, click here.

The Ben method:
1. Ask for something that costs $200+
2. Get me a $5 present in return

That paragraph is very persuasive. Parents are complete suckers for double presents.

My brother's method when he was younger was to buy something for someone else that he wanted and give it to them, saying that if they don't like it, he'll take it. Like, Hey Uncle Donald, here's a yellow toy car. What, you don't want it? I'll take it!
