Since I live with my parents, it was pretty easy for me to get in touch with my mom to ask her for ideas for today's post. In a blatant attempt to steal Lauren's idea, I asked her to come up with some ways in which we were similar. To my surprise (and I suspect the surprise of those of you who know me and who have also met my mother) she replied that we have "lots of differences" because we are "different people." I fail to believe that we are all that different, but whatevs -- she's the boss. With that option gone, I asked my mom to tell me some things she hated so I could rant on her behalf. But my mother does not share my proclivity for ranting, in fact I think all my anger makes her sad. She opted to instead provide me with a short list of things she likes. After the jump, some of my mom's favorite things.
Most days of the week you can find my mom sitting in her living room pursuing her great passions: cats on the Internet and coach bags on Ebay. While simultaneously watching a tivo-recorded episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, my mom toggles back and forth between multiple websites on a mission to find kitties and purses.
Now I know what you're thinking, and No, my mom is neither Phylan nor Kellyq. Nonetheless, my mom does love kitty videos and kitty pictures. Ever since our cat died last year, making my mom a cat lady without a cat, she has turned to the Internet to get her cat fix. She visits stuffonmycat.com and youtube, searching for adorable kitties. There are no words to describe the joy in my mother's face upon finding a particularly cute cat gem. More than once I have been excitedly beckoned to my mom's computer to watch a video of a cat being spanked or a picture of a cat dressed in a costume. One of these days she'll get herself another cat, but till then she chooses to live vicariously through other people who have cats and then post videos and pictures of their cats on-line. And then add music, voice-overs and fade-in edits to their cat footage. While I am perplexed at the shear number of cat videos that are described as "SOOOOO CUUUUTE!" I must admit, cats on the Internet are pretty cute. See that mom -- I'm being positive.
Shopping for Designer Purses on Ebay
My mother has always approached shopping and fashion as a search for the cheapest goods. Of course, this mom-trait isn't unique to my mother -- a lot of moms enjoy the thrill of the shopping hunt. However, my mom's hunt almost always ended at Target or Payless. But all of a sudden last year, she decided she should buy herself a nice purse -- one that was made from real leather and not just leather and plastic derivatives. Being one for a bargain, she turned to Ebay to buy herself a Coach bag. And then again to buy another purse. And then a wallet. And then a wristlet. And then a Fendi bag. And then... well, you get the picture. That picture being that my mom has a billion Ebay auction purses. I wholeheartedly endorse this pastime as it has resulted in my mom just giving me purses because she has too many.
My mom likes all sorts of other things -- swimming, cheese, the Amazing Race, and writing and answering trivia questions. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), reading the Bathtub is not one of her interests. So in order to better honor my mother during this week o' moms, I'm going to stop writing this blog about her and start watching cat videos with her. So mom -- this kitten in a box is for you. Happy Mother's Day!

Yo I'll take a purse from your mom if she needs to lose a few

If Lauren carried two purses, would it be acceptable for her to carry twice as many lip glosses?

I think that Lauren should make the lip gloss song her cell phone ring tone. I LOVE THAT SONG!
